Crushed Pile - Texture Correction

Roll crush appears across the width of the carpet as areas with the pile yarn crushed flat. This can occur during storage, shipping or manufacturing.

Common Identifying Characteristics:

Alternating dark & light bands across the width of the carpet. Bands will normally be a few inches wide and separated by a larger area of about 18 inches to 3 feet or more. Itís found at increasing intervals.

Procedure for Correction:

On nylon pile carpets, the roll crush will come out with changes in heat and humidity or by steaming and lifting the pile. The roll crush can be removed by a flooring professional with the aid of a portable steamer. This simple solution has the carpet restored in a short time.

Feather Blending - Color Correction

Feather Blending is a process approved and used by all mills to repair a problem called side match. Side match is caused by dye run off during the dying process. This is noticeable only when the installer puts the two sides together during the seaming process. Side match shows up as one side of the seam being slightly lighter than the other side of the seam. The problem is infrequent and but can be corrected using the following procedure:

1. The lighter side of the seam is identified. A small amount of dye is added to water and applied to the lighter side by a low volume sprayer.



2. The subject area is dry within minutes. The depth of change is noted and the process repeated if necessary. This process is color fast and is covered under the manufacturer warranties. There are no known allergic reactions to these dyes.
